Per la prima volta il più prestigioso riconoscimento in ambito architettonico su scala mondiale è stato conferito a un progettista di nazionalità indiana. Con all'attivo esperienze al fianco dei grandi Maestri del Novecento, da Le Corbusier a Louis Kahn, all'età di novanta anni Balkrishna Doshi ha ricevuto il Pritzker Architecture Prize. Con il suo studio ha progettato edifici per istituzioni pubbliche e private, complessi ad uso misto, strutture abitative a basso costo, spazi pubblici, gallerie e residenze private, combinando principi modernisti internazionali con il profondo rispetto per la storia e la cultura dell'India.
